What is SFI and How to Enroll:

SFI stands for "Statens Försöks Institut för Svenskundervisning" (Swedish for Immigrants). It's a free, government-funded Swedish language program available to all legal residents of Sweden over 16 years old who are not born Swedish speakers.

How to Enroll: Contact your local municipality's integration office (integrationsenheten) to register. You'll typically have an assessment to determine your level, then be placed in appropriate classes. SFI is completely free and operates on a flexible schedule to accommodate work and family commitments.

Why Take SFI: Beyond language skills, SFI teaches Swedish culture, labor market norms, and helps with integration into Swedish society. Most employers recognize SFI as the standard qualification for Swedish language proficiency among immigrants.
