How Swedish Healthcare Works for Expats:

Sweden has one of the world's best healthcare systems. As an expat, you'll have access to both public and private options:

Public Healthcare: Register at your local Vårdcentralen (health center) to get a personal ID number. This gives you free or heavily subsidized primary care, referrals to specialists, and emergency services. Swedish residents contribute through taxes.

Non-Emergency (1177): Call 1177 (available 24/7) for medical advice about non-emergency situations. They can help you decide if you need in-person care or advise home treatment.

Emergency (112): For life-threatening emergencies, call 112 directly to reach ambulance services and emergency hospitals.

Private Healthcare: For faster appointments or English-language preference, private clinics and specialists are available at higher cost but with no waiting times.
